Hanesydd Cymraeg (Welsh historian) is the website of historian Dafydd Townley. Dafydd is an historian specialising in American political history of the 20th century, with particular focus on the ‘long’ 1960s (1958-1976).

After gaining his BA in History at London Metropolitan University, Dafydd went on to study his Masters degree in United States Studies: History and Politics at University College London’s Institute of the Americas. He is currently a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Reading’s History Department, where he is also researching his PhD. His PhD research topic is entitled ‘Spies, Civil Liberties, and the Senate’, which is an investigation of the 1975 US Senate Select Committee popularly dubbed the Church Committee.

Dafydd’s other areas of interest include social and political protest of the 1960s; history of the FBI; popular culture of the 1960s and 1970s America; history of the US intelligence community; international relations theory; and the modern American presidency.

Professional memberships include Historians of the Twentieth Century United States (HOTCUS); British Association of American Studies (BAAS); American Politics Group UK (APG); and the Society of Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR).
